This page should hopefully help you self-diagnose and fix some of the most common issues: blank screens & crashes. To help diagnose issue, the easiest way to get information is by using Apple's Console, which keeps logs of app activity. GIF Brewery, like many apps, writes occasional messages to the log to help with debugging and support. The Console application is located in /Applications/Utitlies/. You may also find it quickly by using Spotlight. The first thing to do once Console is open is to filter for GIFBrewery in the top right. This will show all the lines originating from or dealing with GIF Brewery.Īlso, on the left hand-side, you'll also see a section called User Diagnostic Reports. If GIF Brewery has crashed, it will add a log into that area. Please send these to GIF Brewery's support in order to help you fix the issue. GIF Brewery currently requires displays to support hardware acceleration. This is true for the standard Mac display and any display connected via a Thunderbolt/MiniDisplay Port. Opening a supported file-format (such as AVI), but using unsupported codec (such as DivX). Many common file-formats & codecs are supported by GIF Brewery by default. However, in order for a video to be playable in GIF Brewery, the file's format & video codec must both be supported. A common culprit for blank screens are AVI files. ![]() ![]() While the AVI format is supported, its common codec (DivX) is not. In order to open DivX files, you will need a Quicktime components, such as Perian installed. Note however, that third-party Quicktime components are NOT supported by GIF Brewery and should be used at a user's discretion. Users/./Library/QuickTime/ponent/Contents/MacOS/Perian: open() failed with errno=1 If you look in your Console (as described above), you might have noticed a line that looked like: GIFBrewery: Error loading /Users/./Library/QuickTime/ponent/Contents/MacOS/Perian: dlopen(/Users/./Library/QuickTime/ponent/Contents/MacOS/Perian, 262): no suitable image found. This is an indication that GIF Brewery is not able to load Perian, because Perian must be installed for all users. The most common reasons for these crashes are out-dated Quicktime Components, such as 3ivX, Perian, Flip4Mac, or DivX. Thus, you should either upgrade the component or remove them.ĭue to Apple's Sandbox restrictions, older Quicktime components may crash GIF Brewery.
